'If you want a red rose,' said the Tree, 'you must build it out of music by moonlight, and stain it with your own heart's-blood. You must sing to me with your breast against a thorn. All night long you must sing to me, and the thorn must pierce your heart, and your life-blood must flow into my veins, and become mine.'
Oscar Wilde - The Nightingale and the Rose

Oscar Wilde, The Nightingale and the Rose. CLG, we did him and his works in literature, remember?

I love this story. It's so sad yet beautiful, and the part where the girl picks the rich guy over this guy and he stops believing is love is such a downer.

I find it beautiful,
to make a rose out of music, sing it from the depths of hearts like a thorn oozing blood from the depths,
the most heartfelt song it shall be... who could then resist from making it their's?

These are beautiful lines by a beautiful artist, a poet, one of a kind.

All this mingling of blood - very dangerous. Oh, dear! Now I'm letting the prosaic housewife in me show too much. I will destroy illusion! Love, Alec xx

Anuradha, we didn't actually DO this story, we did The Importance of Being Ernest and usmay discussed his other works. But yeah, it's brilliant.

Saj, if you liked this you should check out The Birthday of the Infanta too. And The Picture of Dorian Grey. Oscar Wilde at his best.
